Samesame But Different and Auckland Libraries present the ninth Poetry Speakeasy with guest poet Zephyr Zhang 张挚 and host Michael Giacon. Bring your work to read at the open mic, or just come along to listen and and share the love in a welcoming queer word nest on Valentine’s Day.

Zephyr Zhang 张挚

They / Ze

Zephyr Zhang 张挚 is a writer and performer whose work explores migrant and queer experiences. They have performed in the Auckland Theatre Company iteration of Scenes from a Yellow Peril, I Am Rachel Chu and OTHER [chinese]. Zephyr's writing has featured in Starling, Sweet Mammalian, Mayhem, Oscen, Rapture: An Anthology of Performance Poetry from Aotearoa New Zealand, and a range of independent zines.

Michael Giacon

He / Him / They

A poet, songwriter, performer, MC and educator, Michael has lived, studied, worked, written and wondered all his life on the central isthmus of Tāmaki Makaurau. Michael holds an MA in Creative Writing from AUT and won the Kathleen Grattan Prize for a Sequence of Poems, with Argento in no man land. He is publishing his first book of poetry in March-April 2024.
